Sound different lately?

Exhaust problems get loud, then expensive. Catch them at the noise stage and it's usually a straightforward repair.

Suddenly loud

A rumble or roar that wasn't there yesterday usually means a hole in the muffler or a rusted pipe.

Rattling underneath

A heat shield or hanger has broken. Cheap fix now, dragging pipe soon.

Exhaust smell in the cabin

Stop driving and call. Leaking exhaust can pull carbon monoxide into the interior.

Check-engine light + drop in MPG

Often a bad oxygen sensor or a failing catalytic converter β€” the engine can't tune itself right.

Failed state inspection

Emissions or visible tailpipe smoke can flag a Texas inspection. We'll diagnose and re-run the test.

Vibration at speed

A cracked exhaust flex pipe can shake the whole car. Feel it in the steering wheel too.

Common questions

Have a different one? Call β€” a real mechanic answers during shop hours.

My car got loud β€” is this expensive?
Not usually. Loud is often a rusted-out muffler, a broken flex pipe, or a bad gasket β€” small fixes. Loud plus a check-engine light is different β€” that can be an oxygen sensor or catalytic converter, which cost more. We'll pinpoint it before quoting.
Do I need a new catalytic converter?
Only if it's actually failed β€” clogged, gutted, or throwing a code that won't clear. Cats are expensive, so we'll verify it's the cat and not an upstream problem (like a bad O2 sensor) before recommending replacement.
Can you weld the fix instead of replacing the whole exhaust?
Yes β€” if the pipe is otherwise sound, welding a patch or a section is cheaper and just as durable. Full replacement only when the pipe is too rusted to hold a weld.
Will this pass the Texas inspection?
For most Collin County registrations, Texas doesn't emission-test β€” just safety. Your exhaust needs to be leak-free and not excessively loud. We fix it to pass either standard.

Sounds louder than it should?

Bring it by. Most exhaust problems are quick, clean fixes when caught early.
